I learned a tremendous amount through the experiments that I conducted throughout the summer to try to make this product work. ![]() I have a 10 lb cat with a small head and 16 lb cat with a big head and neither enjoyed sticking their face into that deep bowl. Besides, the cats really did not enjoy using this product, because the feeder bowls are far too deep for a cat's short snout. Plus, since the frozen portion melted without true refrigeration, it opened up the risk of mold and bacteria growth which I was not comfortable with taking on. I was successful in extending the life of some of the food to about 12 hours if I put it in there frozen, but I don't think the cats really enjoyed having melted frozen food as one of their meal options. ![]() The longest I could get the ice packs to last for in the Florida summer was about 5 hours. I tried many experiments from insulating the product from the bottom to cutting up insulation to the shape of the insides of the feeder and of the ice packs to try to keep as much of the cold inside as possible. Sadly, there are no automatic feeders on the market that keep wet food fresh for more than an hour, and this product fits that category. ![]() This product works great if all you ever want to do is feed your cats dry food and treats, but as we know, cats cannot survive on just dry food, and if you dare to feed your cat an exclusively dry food diet, then you will eventually wind up in the emergency room with a cat with FLUTD. I finally decided to try this product but it did not live up to my expectations. I spent a good portion of this year researching various solutions to help me (and my cat sitter) with maintaining my cats during a two-week vacation.
